Power Generation

On 4 December 2009 Bow Energy awarded a contract to Clarke Energy Australia for the design and construction of a 30 MW gas fired power station located approximately 14km north east of the township of Blackwater in central Queensland.

Clarke Energy has installed over 1,300MW of gas fired power worldwide since 1995, with over 300 MW of this in Australia alone including the installation of the similarly sized Daandine Power Station near Dalby in Queensland for Arrow Energy Limited in 2006.

The Bow Energy power station will comprise ten GE Jenbacher reciprocating engines each producing 3MW at 11kV, enough power to supply approximately 10,000 homes. The high class leading efficiency (38%-44%) of the Jenbacher engines coupled with environmentally friendly technology result in outstanding fuel economy and low exhaust emissions.

The power station will require approximately 2 petajoules (PJ) of coal seam gas per annum to be supplied from Bow Energy’s 100% owned and operated nearby Blackwater Coal Seam Gas Field which already has 1,340 PJs of 3P reserves certified to date. The electricity sales from the power station will provide Bow with ongoing cash flow while appraising and production testing the field for the supply of larger gas markets.

Pending regulatory approvals, the targeted completion date is for the first quarter of 2011.
